Support for SEND

The Graduated Approach

If your child has been identified as having a SEND need which requires support over and beyond our ordinary inclusive teaching methods, your child will be placed on our SEND Register and we will create a individualised provision map (IPM) which details the support they will receive.

The provision maps will be created using:

  • Assessment and observation information from the class teacher, SENDCo or outside professionals such as speech and language support.
  • Conversations and collaboration from you as parents
  • Conversations with the child involved.

Provision maps will detail:

  • The needs your child has
  • Targets and desired outcomes
  • Interventions your child is receiving
  • Any other additional strategies within QFT your child benefits from

The provision your child receives is continually assessed for impact and progress by your Teacher, and, at three points during the year, the provision maps will be formally assessed and rebuilt with parents and children too.  Sometimes, this review of the provision will lead to your child making progress and coming off the SEND register. Other times, we may decide to carry an intervention forward, or change the intervention depending on how your child is responding to it.

This whole process is an 'assess, plan, do review' model and in line with the Worcestershire Children's First offer which all Worcestershire schools follow; it is named the Graduated Approach. It ensures that children are receiving the right intervention for their need and that the intervention is impactful, purposeful and promoting progress.
