Safeguarding Children

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

How does Flyford Flavell Primary  School  safeguard my child?

Safeguarding children is taken extremely seriously at Flyford Flavell Primary  School.  Any adult working in school is required to undertake relevant police checks prior to starting work. We ensure that during any recruitment process, at least one  safer recruitment trained member is on the interview panel. All new staff undertake Safeguarding and Prevent training , whilst we ensure that existing staff members training remains current.

We have clear procedures to make sure that children are safe and secure at all times. Under the Education Act 2002 (Section 175 for maintained schools/Section 157 for academies/free/independent schools), schools must make arrangements to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. Parents/carers should know that the law (Children Act 1989) requires all school staff to pass on information which gives rise to a concern about a child’s welfare, including risk from neglect, physical, emotional or sexual abuse. Staff will ordinarily seek to discuss any concerns with the parent/carer and, when appropriate, seek their consent to make a referral to Children’s Social Care if that is considered necessary. However, there may be occasions, when in the interests of the child, this is not appropriate. In such a situation the school will will seek advice from Children’s Social Care when the school has reasonable cause to suspect a child may be suffering or likely to suffer significant harm. Parents/carers will appreciate that the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead carries out their responsibilities in accordance with the law and acts in the best interests of all children.

We encourage children to share any welfare concerns they have with staff, who will report any disclosures to:

Mrs R Bennett: Designated Safeguarding Leader

In the absence of above: Mrs H Bown,  Deputy Designated Safeguarding leader.
