Learning for life

Flyford Flavell Primary School

Reception

Welcome to Reception

Step into our class and you will see 15 children having fun and immersed in their learning! Our class teacher is Mrs Bown and our Learning Support Assistant is Miss Harding. Throughout the week we are also support by Donna and Bex from Pippins Pre-School. We are very excited to have the children begin their learning journey with us and are looking forward to watching the children grow, develop their confidence and tackle new challenges with enthusiasm.

Spring Two

For the second half of the Spring Term our topic is Around the World. We will be using the story ‘My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes’ to explore different countries and cultures around the world. Each week the children will explore what life is like in a different country, including local traditions, key landmarks, identify simple phrases and they will try some of the cuisine! As part of this topic we will also be reflecting on our local area and comparing this to other places in the United Kingdom.

Spring One

This half term our topic is Bears. We will start by using stories to explore bears (the animal) and then move onto teddy bears.  As a class we will think about different types of bears and how they are suited to their habitats. Linking to this learning, the children will also think about our local climate and how it changes through the different seasons.  We also have some exciting projects this half term. The children will be creating their own bookmarks, hosting a Teddy Bears’ Picnic and performing a Bears themed class assembly.

Autumn Two

This half term our topic is ‘Festivals’. The children will learn about a range of special events and traditions from different cultures and religions, such as Diwali, Bonfire Night, Hanukkah and Christmas. Through stories, music, art and role play the children will gain a broader appreciation of the different ways people come together to celebrate, helping to develop curiosity, respect, and a sense of belonging. We also have an important visit with Father Christmas in December!

Autumn One

The children's first half-term at school is always very exciting, we are looking forward to getting to know them all. Our first few weeks together will be focused on ensuring the children are confident with our daily routine and feel secure within their new learning environment. This half-term our topic is 'People who help us'. We will be exploring different key roles in society and how these support us. As part of this learning, we will also identify how these roles have changed overtime. To enhance our learning we will be inviting members of the local community into school to discuss their job role with the children.
