Welcome to Year 1 and 2 class. Our class teacher is Mrs Bearcroft and we are also lucky to have our learning assistants Mrs Coley, Mrs Smith and Mrs Bartliff who are with us throughout the day. We love learning new things and sharing each others successes. Our class is energetic, fun and we always strive to try our best at anything we do.
This half term our theme is London; Heart of our democracy.
We will be exploring homes in and on the outskirts of London, looking at various London landmarks and dwellings dating back to the Roman times.
Our focus text will be "Lights on Cotton Rock" written by the same author as our much loved previous text "The Bear and the Piano".
We are hoping to show off some green fingers by planting various seeds and observing their growth into healthy plants.
We are excited to begin our topic on Wonder Women, where we will be looking at strong females from the past and present and why they are still remembered today. In Science we are exploring animals and their types, including mammals, amphibians, fish, birds and reptiles.
In English we have started looked at our new text 'Diary of a Wombat', which we will use to help us write our own diary entries. Our Maths focus moves on to division and sharing, whilst in Geography we are exploring the United Kingdom with areas ruled by the British Empire.
This half term our topic is 'School Days'. We are going back in time and exploring the life of a Victorian child. We will find out how different school life is to ours now! We are also going to take a look at school life in other countries around the world. In English we will also be looking at stories with familiar settings, such as 'Owl Babies' and 'Not Now Bernard!'. In Science we will be learning about Our Body, and also observing seasonal changes. We are very excited to learn new skills as we start the year!
